A particularly painful read can be found here: http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/1000934.htm
Ignoring (for now) the likelihood that the implementation of celibacy in the priesthood was a means for the Church to steal the worldly possessions of wizards that died without kids, those in favour of celibacy seem oblivious to the widespread effects of retarding the sexual gratification of groups of men. Really, has this ever been a good idea? Are there any sexually repressed groups of people that are docile and friendly? I can't think of any. Prisons and Islamic nations spring to mind right away as examples of horny men behaving badly.
Anyhow, from the article, Aquilino Polaino Lorente, a professor of psychopathology at the University of St. Paul Medical School in Madrid, said that accepting God's call to a vocation as a celibate priest "does not carry any more psychological risks than marriage does." Maybe we should ask the thousands of children raped by priests for their opinion on that matter? Or would the truth compromise the ability of the Church to ignore reality?
Aquilino also blabbered that people do not have to act on their sexual impulses in order to be happy and healthy and that not controlling those impulses is a sure sign of a serious psychological problem. Really? Is that not self-evident? Anyhow, despite the stupidity of Aquilino's statement, we can still assume that a significant proportion of wizards in the Church have serious psychological problems. I might argue that an unsubstantiated belief in a sky fairy that purportedly videotapes all the bad things we do and sends us to a lake of fire for shoplifting at Walmart indicates that 100% of priests have serious psychological problems, but that is an argument for another day (as is my argument that we have a moral and ethical responsibility to shoplift from stores like Walmart).
The unfortunate fact is, if you are a pedophile, the best place to get laid is in Church.
AMEN!
